Respite support
A genuine break for family carers, and time that the person being supported actually enjoys.
What this support is
Respite is support that gives a family carer a break — a few hours, an evening, a weekend — while the person they care for is well supported and, ideally, having a good time.
Respite only works when both sides of it work. A carer who spends the whole break worrying has not had a break.
Who it might suit
People come to us for respite support for all sorts of reasons. A few common ones:
- You are caring for a family member and have not had a full day off in a long time
- You need to attend an appointment, a wedding, a funeral or a work commitment
- The person you care for would benefit from time with someone other than family
- You are approaching the point where something has to change
What support can look like
A proper introduction first
Nobody is left with a stranger. Our Founder & Director attends the first visit, and where possible the worker meets the person before the respite itself.
Planned, not improvised
We agree beforehand what the time will involve — at home, out, or a mix.
You get told how it went
A note afterwards, so you come back informed rather than interrogating everyone.
Regular where that helps
Recurring respite in the same slot is far more useful than an occasional emergency block.
How Gold Coast Devoted Care is different
We do not treat respite as babysitting. It is a support shift with goals, a plan and a written record, the same as any other.
Before any support begins, our Founder & Director meets you in person to understand your routine, preferences, communication style and goals. The worker match is made from that conversation.
What happens when you get in touch
- You call, email or send the form — no NDIS terminology needed.
- We reply the same business day and ask a few practical questions.
- Our Founder & Director meets you, usually within a couple of days.
- We confirm the worker, share your plan with them, and tell you who is coming.
- Support starts, and we check in after the first shift.
Where it is available
Across the Gold Coast, Logan and Brisbane South. If you are just outside those areas, ask anyway.
Funding. We support Plan-Managed and Self-Managed NDIS participants, and private clients. Our rates sit at or below the NDIS price limits, so there is no gap for you to pay. Gold Coast Devoted Care is not currently a registered NDIS provider; registration is underway.
Respite support — common questions
Planned respite is easiest with a week or two. We also take short-notice requests and will tell you straight away whether we can cover it.
Yes, including sleepovers and active overnight support where that is what is needed.
That is what we aim for. Consistency is the whole point.
