Community access
Getting out — appointments, shopping, the beach, a class, a coffee, a catch-up. With transport where you need it.
What this support is
Community access is support to do the things that happen outside your home. Appointments, the shops, the library, a class, sport, a walk along the Broadwater, or simply a coffee somewhere that is not your kitchen.
It can include transport in a worker's vehicle where that has been agreed in advance.
Who it might suit
People come to us for community access for all sorts of reasons. A few common ones:
- Getting out has become harder than it used to be, and going alone does not feel safe
- You have goals in your plan about community participation, work or study
- You would like to try something new and would rather not do the first few times on your own
- Appointments are piling up because transport is the barrier
What support can look like
Your interests, not a generic outing
We ask what you actually enjoy. Fishing, markets, the gym, a particular café — the plan is built around that.
Local knowledge
Accessible parking, quiet shopping hours, which venues have a Changing Places toilet, which beaches have matting and free beach wheelchairs.
Transport when it is agreed
Where transport is part of your support, the worker holds a current licence and appropriate vehicle insurance, and travel is agreed with you in advance.
Building confidence, not dependence
If the goal is to eventually do something on your own, we work towards that and say so out loud.
How Gold Coast Devoted Care is different
Community access falls apart when the worker changes every week, because half of it is the relationship. We allocate the same worker wherever possible and brief them before every shift, so you are not re-explaining yourself each time.
Before any support begins, our Founder & Director meets you in person to understand your routine, preferences, communication style and goals. The worker match is made from that conversation.
What happens when you get in touch
- You call, email or send the form — no NDIS terminology needed.
- We reply the same business day and ask a few practical questions.
- Our Founder & Director meets you, usually within a couple of days.
- We confirm the worker, share your plan with them, and tell you who is coming.
- Support starts, and we check in after the first shift.
Where it is available
Across the Gold Coast, Logan and Brisbane South. If you are just outside those areas, ask anyway.
Funding. We support Plan-Managed and Self-Managed NDIS participants, and private clients. Our rates sit at or below the NDIS price limits, so there is no gap for you to pay. Gold Coast Devoted Care is not currently a registered NDIS provider; registration is underway.
Community access — common questions
Where it has been agreed in advance and the worker holds a current licence and appropriate insurance, yes. Any travel charges are agreed with you before support begins — there are no surprises on an invoice.
That is completely fine. Some days going out is not what you want, and we would rather adapt than push.
Yes. We can support you to get there, stay as long as you need us to, or step back once you are settled.
